Invisalign is the ‘invisible’ way to straighten teeth. Forget metal brackets or arch-wires which are needed for braces, instead Invisalign uses a series of clear, removable aligners to gradually straighten your teeth. It is a new modern way for your dentist to rearrange crooked and misaligned teeth.
This modern choice for braces seems like a miracle solution for those who would rather have their teeth straightened discreetly; it nonetheless comes with its own set of complications that we will address today.
Like anything that is accomplished over a period of time, there is a process involved which takes time to become accustomed to. Understanding and dedicating yourself to this process will help you achieve the end results you are looking for.
You will wear a series of clear plastic, custom-made trays over their teeth 20 to 22 hours a day. This leaves you with 2 – 4 hours for eating and oral hygiene. Each set of trays are designed to gently exert pressure on the teeth to rearrange their positions
These aligners gradually move your teeth into the desired position. Every 2 to 3 weeks you’ll be given a new set of aligners which build on the work of the previous ones. How long the aligners take to move your teeth into position will depend on how much treatment you require, but on average, Invisalign takes between 12 and 14 months.
Invisalign is great for patients who are allergic to the metal used in traditional braces. Because these braces are completely removable, you are able to eat or drink whatever you like during treatment. You can also brush and floss your teeth as you normally would. As there is no a metal wire or brackets involved, you will find it to be exceptionally comfortable compared to conventional braces. This has the added benefit of reducing the number of visits required for monitoring and adjustments.
There are certain situations for which it would not be recommended. However, we would be glad to discuss this option with you. It is recommended for adults and often can be used on teenagers. Our practice is fully Invisalign certified.
