New Year resolutions for a healthy mouth in 2018

• If it has been a while since you have seen a dentist, it’s time to book an appointment for a check-up. To make the process of scheduling visits easier, book your next one before you leave your dentist office or ask the receptionist to send you a reminder.
• Brush your teeth at least twice a day, use a fluoride toothpaste and change you tooth brush frequently (if you are not changing your brush, you are introducing bacteria every time you brush). Increase the habit of flossing, get used to the floss as it will help you to clean in between your teeth.
• Smoking has been linked with a number of health issues, make “quit smoking” one of the most important New Year’s resolutions for you and your family.

• It’s never too late to see an orthodontist. Beyond the cosmetic issues that can be associated with an incorrect bite, there also are dental health implications. A misaligned bite can lead to temporo-mandibular joint disorder, interfere with eating and speaking, and lead to abnormal tooth wear. It’s never too late to right your bite, so make 2018 the year that you consult with an orthodontist about your options.
• Reduce your sugar and fizzy drinks intake, it has been confirmed that there is a direct link between the amount of sugar a person eats and the amount of tooth decay he has. Resolve to add more healthy foods to your diet to benefit to your teeth. Dairy products, which are high in calcium, are great for your teeth, as are fibrous foods that stimulate saliva and scrub away plaque and other food residue.
