The Normal Dental Implantation Method

To understand just how great an innovation the Immediate Implant Technique is, we will first take a brief view of what the normal implant procedure involves. 

1. Examination

   The surrounding gum and jawbone are examined to establish their health and ability to accept the implant.

2. Bone grafting

   If the surrounding jawbone is not strong enough to hold the implant, a bone graft may be done either from a different part of the body or from artificial implants. This can take anywhere from six months to heal.

3. Drilling

   An incision in the gum is made and a drill is used to shape out the foundation where the implant will be held. This again takes about six months after the anchor is placed for it to fully integrate with the jawbone.

4. A temporary cap

   A temporary cap is placed during this time to protect the anchors.

5. After healing

   After healing has occurred, the temporary cap is removed, and the permanent crown is installed.

As you can see, this procedure, while effective for implants, can take quite a long time.

How The Replicate Tooth Replacement Technique Works

Here is how it works.

1. Imaging

   As soon as you have a tooth come out the removed tooth has an impression taken with a digital scanner. If it is a tooth that is yet to be removed, a 3D image is taken. This means that our Muswell Hill dentist can immediately use your tooth’s 3D impression to have your new implant tooth cab created.

2. Replacement with a temporary

   If it is a tooth that is already out, the replacement tooth is installed immediately. If not, during the next appointment, the faulty tooth is removed, and the replacement installed. At this time a temporary cap is added to protect the anchor.

3. Healing

   The temporary tooth takes about six months to heal. This time is required for the anchor to be embedded firmly in the jawbone, a process known as osseointegration. This means that the surrounding bone and the replacement tooth material integrate to form a very strong joint. A titanium/zirconium alloy is used for the replacement tooth because titanium is strong, and the bone integrates naturally with it. It has a low risk of rejection and is non-toxic as well as non-corrosive.

4. Fixing the permanent crown

   After healing is complete, the temporary protective cap is removed, and the permanent crown is installed. This will look exactly like your old original tooth as the 3D image used to replicate it, can help reproduce the same appearance, colour and size.

This is a pretty straightforward process as you can see. It will only take a maximum of eight months from start to finish, but with the difference that within one dental visit you can have your missing tooth replaced.

However, not every case is eligible for the immediate tooth replacement technique.

Who Can Get The Replicate Tooth Replacement In A Day?

For you to be eligible to have your tooth replaced immediately there are a few factors that need to be considered. Our dentist will usually look for a few things before performing the procedure.

• How long ago the tooth came off – the procedure works best if the tooth to be replaced is still intact. That is a planned procedure where the offending tooth is removed and a replacement is implanted immediately. If the tooth already came off, it should not be more than 48 hours ago. If you exceed this time limit, the gum will have started growing back and the usual/normal implant procedure has to be followed.
• The overall health of the gums and jawbone – The gums need to be free of infection and the jawbone socket structurally sound to receive the Replicate replacement. If any form of injury or infection is detected, it cannot be done.
• Commitment to maintaining oral health – Dental implants, immediate or otherwise, require meticulous care. You need to maintain proper oral health and reduce or quit compromising habits such as smoking.
• Health condition – If you have any autoimmune condition, this may be a riskier procedure for you.
