Gum or gingiva is this continuous layer of specialised epithelium found only in the oral cavity, which is firmly attached to the underlying alveolar bone. When healthy, it fit around the neck of every tooth like a tight cuff; gingivae are pink in colour with a stippled surface like orange peel.
If your gums bleed when brushing or you notice blood in the sink after rinsing, your gums are red or puffy it’s an early form of gum disease called gingivitis
When brushing use a correct technique, always remove soft plaque from the gum line where gum and teeth meet together.
Bleeding is part of the inflammatory response and a way of your body telling you that bacteria are irritating your gums. If bacteria and deposit are building up, it must be removed. If left untreated bleeding gums will lead to more complicated gum disease.
The best way to find out what is causing your gums to bleed is to see your dentist and dental hygienist.
